Riverhead firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at Peconic Bay Medical Center this morning at 11:20 a.m.

It turned out to be an overhead belt in a motor of the heating system on the roof of the hospital. The belt did not catch fire.

According to Fire Chief Nick Luparella, a belt from the heating system on the roof of the hospital overheated. The odor of smoke spread through the hospital. The belt did not catch fire.

Three fire trucks responded to the scene and quickly found the faulty belt. The hospital was not evacuated.
