Riverhead volunteer firefighters quickly tamped out a brush fire on a vacant lot next to a Riley Avenue residence Tuesday morning. The fire was reported at around 9 a.m. between Edwards and Twomey, up the road from the fire department substation and the Riley Avenue Elementary School. The fire was within 50 feet of the nieghboring wood-frame house.
Two pumpers and a fire police patrol unit responded the scene.
