An Aquebogue man was killed in a motor vehicle accident in North Haven Thursday afternoon.

Charles Edwards, 56, was driving a truck south on Ferry Road (Route 114) May 3 at about 12:30 p.m., when the truck crossed into the opposite lane and struck a tree at the intersection of Ferry and Fahys Road, according to Southampton Town Police.

Edwards was seriously injured in the crash and succumbed to his injuries about two hours later at Southampton Hospital, police said.

The truck, an Isuzu box truc, was owned by Helen’s Greenhouses and Flower Farms in Aquebogue. Edwards was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The accident is under investigation and police are asking witnesses or anyone with information to call Southampton Town Police at 631-728-3400. Information and tips can also be left anonymously on the police hotline at 631-728-3454.

Edwards was  a longtime resident of Calverton, where he grew up on a farm on Edwards Avenue. He was a 1974 graduate of Riverhead High School and leaves behind a wife and three grown children. See obituary.

Editor’s note: A previously published version of this article incorrectly stated Edwards was a resident of Calverton. He lived in Calverton most of his life, but moved to Aquebogue six years ago, his daughter said.
