UPDATED 4:30 p.m.
A woman’s body was found this morning at the edge of the parking lot at the Department of Motor Vehicles shopping center on Route 58, according to Riverhead police.
Riverhead and Suffolk County homicide detectives were on the scene investigating for seven hours after the body was discovered at approximately 8:20 a.m.
Police identified the body in a press release this afternoon as a Hispanic woman who appears to be approximately 30 years old.
The discovery was made a week after police were called to the scene of a fight at the adjacent Sabor Latino Restaurant, where three men reported being assaulted by unknown assailants in a large fight.
The parking lot behind the Department of Motor Vehicles was closed for the duration of the investigation. It has been reopened.
Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS or contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392. All calls will be kept confidential.
