There will be no recyclables pickup this week, due to the Independence Day holiday on Wednesday, Supervisor Sean Walter reminded residents today.

Other collection days remain the same this week.

Recyclables pickup will resume next Wednesday on the regular schedule: carboard and paper pickup. Mixed cans, glass and plastic will be picked up on July 18.

Below is the notice issued by the Town of Riverhead last week regarding the upcoming holiday.

ATTENTION ALL RIVERHEAD RESIDENTS

Effective January 1, 2012, the Town of Riverhead is under contract with European American Waste Disposal for residential curbside garbage collection. There were two changes associated with the new contract as follows:

• HOLIDAYS – When a holiday is indicated by the red circle on your recycling calendar, there will be no collection on that day. All other collections that week will be as normally scheduled.

The remaining holidays for 2012 are July 4th, September 3rd, November 22nd, and December 25th. Please refer to your 2012 recycling calendar.

• HOUSEHOLD TRASH – There will be two (2) household trash collections each week. Homeowners may put household trash out on their first pick up of the week and on the Bulk/Yard Waste day at the end of the week. Your pick up days have not changed.

REMINDERS:

Trash must be placed curbside by 6 a.m. on all pick up days.

Fresh cut grass clippings WILL NOT be collected.

Bagged leaves and other garden debris must be in paper lawn & leaf bags or may be placed loose in a can. Branches must be four (4) feet or shorter and tied in bundles. Plastic bags will not be collected. Paper bags are available at your local hardware or home improvement stores.
