Darnell (“Perry”) Davis, of Riverhead, died March 20, 2013. He was 48 years old.
Born in Riverhead on Feb. 21, 1965, he was the son of Reginald and Bertha Davis.
He attended Riverhead public schools and was graduated from Riverhead High School in 1983. He attended Johnson and Wales Culinary Institute and worked as a chef on the west coast, in Washington and California, where he lived for 14 years.
Davis ran a successful catering business. He also became a hairstylist and worked at Robert James Salon and Spa in Riverhead for almost 10 years.
He was a member of the Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverside.
“Perry was an all-around entertainer with a soft heart,” his family said in a written statement. He enjoyed entertaining and was famous for his “signature” parties. He loved when his family and friends would gather around so he could cook and entertain, his family said.
Predeceased by his father and a sister, Terese, he is survived by his mother, and by his brothers, Reginald Jr. and his wife Patricia, of Raleigh, N.C., Jeffrey and his wife Deanna, of Riverhead, and a sister, Dorice and her husband Carl Brown, of Riverhead.
A funeral service was held March 26, 2013 at Galilee Church of God in Christ, the Rev. Dr. Roy L. Pennon Sr. officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Seay Memorial Chapel of Riverhead.
