Dorothy A. Carusona, of Calverton, died at home April 2, 2013 after a brief illness. She was 91 years old.

Born in the Bronx on Nov. 18, 1921, she was the daughter of Catherine (Blaho) and Simon Auer.

She attended Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and worked as a designer and seamstress.

She married Ralph Carusona on Sept. 18, 1941 in the Bronx. The couple settled in Babylon in 1953. She moved to Calverton after her husband died in 2003.

Carusona enjoyed painting landscapes and was a great cook, according to a family statement.

She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Lindstrom and her husband Harold, of Calverton, her daughter Christine Miller and her husband Harold, of Leland, N.C., by two grandchildren, Harold Miller and Danielle Miller, and by two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Maryann Parisi, of Port Jefferson.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, April 7, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home, 406 East Main St., Riverhead. A funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, April 8 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore’s R.C. Church, 622 Pulaski St., Riverhead. Interment will follow at L.I. National Cemetery in Pinelawn.
