A two-car accident near the county center this morning sent two drivers to Peconic Bay Medical Center, according to officials at the scene.

At about 8:15 a.m. a white Nissan Altima southbound on Route 24 collided with a red Kia Optima turning from County Road 51 onto northbound Route 24, officials said.

Both drivers were treated at the scene by Flanders Volunteer Ambulance Corps and taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

Riverhead Fire Department also responded to clean up liquids spilled onto the roadway from the vehicles. Volunteer firefighters also assisted with traffic control.

There were no tickets or charges filed as a result of the incident, according to Deputy Sheriff John Andrejack.
