Shortstop Danielle Napoli’s leadoff home run over the left field fence turned out to be the only run scored by the Blue Waves in yesterday’s 8-1 loss to Eastport-South Manor.

They had a lot of chances to score but were not able to make it to home plate, Coach Jeff Doroski said after the game.

“The girls have a lot of spirt. They are young team and working hard. That’s what were building on,” the coach said.

The Waves have a good defensive team, Doroski said. “We need to work on getting more runs in,” he said.

Pitcher Casey Plitt is young and still learning, he said. “She gets better all the time. But it’s all on her right now. It’s a lot. Hopefully Jess Freeborn will be back soon,” Doroski said. She went out with a injury early in the season. “When she’s back that will give us a pitching staff.”

“I’m the new guy on the block, but I had a lot of support from Coach Fox coming into this,” the new coach said.

The Waves play an away game at Half Hollow Hills West today at 4 p.m.
