Description:

Great Rock Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course and American cuisine restaurant located on Sound Avenue in Wading River.

“Great Rock is fully committed to providing the East End with outstanding course conditions but remaining accessible for every golfers’ budget,” said Club Manager Brian Curtin.

“There are many courses on the East End for the public to choose from, but what sets Great Rock apart from the rest is our attention to detail and our amazing customer service,” Curtin said. “From meeting our guests at the bag drop to cleaning their clubs at the end of their round, nobody treats you better and is more appreciative of your business than the employees here at Great Rock.”

The golf club’s restaurant, Blackwells, is currently undergoing a complete renovation “to improve upon what was already an amazing dining destination,” said Curtin. The new restaurant is scheduled to be completed and opened sometime in early fall of 2014.

History:

Great Rock Golf Club was established in 2000 in an attempt to meet the demand for quality golf with an upscale clubhouse, Curtin said. As a private golf club, if was difficult for Great Rock to attract clientele that would support a high priced membership. Curtin said that upon the move to a semi-private club, business picked up. Fast forward to 2014 and GRGC is now under new ownership.

Favorite Story:

“My favorite story has to be the time we found an alligator in the pond at the 18th hole,” Curtin said. “Talk about unbelievable.”

“When I got the phone call from an employee telling me all about it I thought he was joking,” Curtin said. “Then I saw it for myself and I still didn’t believe him. Animal Control came to save us from the grips of the three-footer but it was something none of us will soon forget.”

Future Plans:

Great Rock is planning to offer discount packages for 2015 for those more frequent players. Pre paying before the Spring of 2015 will allow anyone interested to save a lot of money and will also enter them into private tournaments and other fun events we have scheduled for next year, Curtin said.

As for Blackwells, “the menu will be American casual with a focus on fun, accessible fare that will offer something for everyone, without breaking the bank,” Curtin said. “There won’t be an item on the menu for more than $30.”

“We will have more than 15 craft beers on tap that will change constantly to keep up with what’s hot in addition to a fantastic wine list featuring our neighbors to our east and the many wonderful wines they produce in our backyard,” Curtin said.
