The Riverhead Free Library, Cornell Cooperative Extension and AARP are hosting a Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) application assistance event including educational seminars on Healthy Easting and Food Preparation on Monday, September 29 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Riverhead Free Library, 330 Court Street, Riverhead, NY 11901.

SNAP is available to help anyone who qualifies, at any age, and resources will be available to assist with the SNAP application. You may be eligible even if you own your own car or home, or have money in the bank. SNAP is the new name for the Food Stamp Program. SNAP provides a monthly benefit that can help with your grocery bills while freeing up precious income for other household needs.

Cornell University Extension of Suffolk County will offer free seminars on Healthy Eating and Food Preparation, hourly.

Join us for the following sessions:

3 p.m. – Healthy Eating: How to prepare nutritious meals on a budget.
4 p.m. – How much am I eating: Enjoy your food but eat less.
5 p.m. – How to read food labels and make healthy choices.
6 p.m. – Rethink Your Drink: Make better beverage choices.

RSVP by calling 1-877-926-8300 and sign up for the seminars of your choice. Also, take advantage of a free one-on-one SNAP prescreen for all ages with a trained specialist.
