Internationally renowned dance instructor Alfonso Triggiani taught hundreds of joint replacement patients the hottest dance moves as they burn up the dance floor at the 10th annual Joint Replacement Reunion BBQ and Dance at East Wind Caterers Friday afternoon.

For the hundreds of post-surgery patients that received knee and hip replacement surgery at Peconic Bay Medical Center, a healthy recovery included an invitation to mingle, enjoy a delicious barbeque and dance the afternoon away with their families and friends at the Peconic Bay Medical Center’s 10th Annual Joint Replacement Reunion BBQ and Dance.

The approximately 800 people in attendance, about 500 of which were patients, celebrating patients’ successes on the road to recovery, illustrating the fact that undergoing knee or hip replacement truly means living again.

“As rewarding as it is for patients to come back and see their sugeons, therapists and nurses, it is equally rewarding for all of us to see how well they’re doing and how much they’ve returned to a normal life because they’ve had the surgery, PBMC CEO Andy Mitchell said at the event.

“It’s amazing to see the people you’ve treated over the past two years and here they are dancing, dressd up, and you realize how full their lives are,” said Orthopedic Surgeon Peter Sultan. “[The patients will] tell you that they wouldn’t have gone out before and risk dancing. Now here they are pulling me on the dance floor,” Sultan said with a smile.

The dance is another example of PBMC’s commitment to compassionate and comprehensive healthcare as its exceptionally skilled physicians, surgeons, nurses and physical therapists continue to meet the medical and surgical needs of the communities it serves while also providing exceptional follow up which, in this case, also includes fun.
