Three people were injured in a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 25 and Edwards Avenue in Calverton Friday afternoon.

Police at the scene said a Ford van was eastbound on Route 25 while a Mercury Grand Marquis was westbound on Route 25 and attempting to make a left turn onto southbound Edwards Avenue. Both vehicles failed to yield the right-of-way, continuing through the intersection despite yellow lights and collided, according to police. One of the vehicles then struck a Ford Focus that was waiting at the red light in the northbound lane of Edwards Avenue.

Two Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps rigs responded to the scene at about 1 p.m. The two occupants of the Grand Marquis as well as the driver and sole occupant of the Ford van were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the Focus was uninjured.

Summonses were issued to the driver of the Grand Marquis for unlicensed operation and failure to yield the right-of-way, police said. A summons was also issued to the driver of the van for failure to yield the right-of way.
