George D. Atkinson, of Riverhead, died at home on September 18, 2014. He was 72 years old.
Born in Riverhead on January 20, 1942, he was the son of Ralph and Helen (Porter) Atkinson. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and worked as a dispatcher for the Riverhead Fire Department.
Atkinson was predeceased by his wife Sandra and his son Gregory. He is survived by daughter Tina, of Hampton Bays, by his brother Ronald, of Cutchogue, and his sisters, Patricia Harvey, of Marathon, N.Y. and Mary Lambertson, of Manorville.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 23 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Cemetery in Riverhead.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.
