The Blue Waves varsity football team rolled over the Smithtown West Bulls in Smithtown Saturday afternoon 35-7, improving their record to 3-0.
The Waves scored on their first four possessions of the first half and scored again coming out of the locker room to start the second.
Quarterback Kenny Simco’s 2-yard run and three touchdown passes — connecting with Mark Andrejack on a 24-yard pass, Connor Clinco for 9 and Ryun Moore for 22 — lifted the Waves to victory over the Bulls (1-2). Roger Foster scored the game’s first TD on a 63-yard run.
Kicker Nico Bossey went 5 for 5, adding the extra point to each Riverhead touchdown.
There’s no time for rest this week, a short one due to the upcoming Yom Kippur holiday next weekend.
Riverhead travels to Half Hollow Hills West for its next contest Wednesday at 4 p.m., where the Waves will look to hand the Mustangs their first loss this season — and vice versa. Riverhead, Hills West and Bellport all share the top spot in Division II football with matching 3-0 records.
“It’s tough to play a physical game like this and then go against a good opponent on Wednesday,” Blue Waves Coach Leif Shay said after the game. “It’s going to be a good game,” he added.
