A bicyclist struck by a car on East Main Street this morning escaped serious injury in the accident.

The man suffered a head injury but was conscious and alert at the scene of the crash. He was transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of an injury police said was not life-threatening.

The cyclist was westbound on East Main Street when he was struck by a westbound Nissan Altima shortly after 11 a.m. The female driver of the car had no passengers.

No summonses were issued, police said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
