The Special Olympics is partnering with The All Star in Riverhead to form a Special Olympics bowling team.

The team will practice every Monday evening from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the All Star, located at 98 Main Road in Riverhead.

Each Monday practice will cost $10, which include

s shoe rental and two games, though fundraising efforts will look to defray some of that cost after we get established, said organizer Gary Karlson.

Costs for the handful of yearly tournaments are covered by the Special Olympics, he said.

“Bowlers with special needs of all ages (8 years and older) and all ability levels are encouraged to join us as we learn, practice, build friendships, improve upon of personal best scores, and train to bowl in tournaments with other Long Island teams throughout the year,” Karlson said.

The first 10-week session begins on Oct. 20 and runs every Monday through Dec. 22.

There will be an informational meeting for prospective bowlers, parents, and/or caregivers on Monday, Oct. 6 beginning at 5 pm. at the All-Star.
