Riverhead Police are searching this morning for two men who shot a 19-year-old male in the back on a downtown Riverhead street late last night.

Police responded to Maple Avenue at 11:34 p.m. Friday on a report that a man hat been shot on Maple Avenue. Officers found Deivi Perez, 19, with two gunshot wound to his back.

“Perez advised officers that two unknown Hispanic males shot him as he was walking home on East Avenue near Maple Avenue,” Riverhead Police said in a press release issued early Saturday morning.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Perez to Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital for surgery, police said. No information about his condition was immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing and police are requesting anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call (631)727-4500 ext. 610.
