Supporters turned out to help raise money for Maureen’s Haven in the group’s second annual 5K run/walk Sunday in Riverhead.

The one-mile family run included a pancake breakfast and was held at Stotzky Park.

The event was particularly meaningful this year, as participants rememberedMaureen’s Haven volunteer Jim Callaghan, of Jamesport, who lost his life in January when he was struck by a vehicle while jogging  on Main Road in Laurel.

Maureen’s Haven, operating under the auspices of Peconic Community Council, provides shelter at East End houses of worship, where homeless guests gather for warm meals and to spend the nights protected from the cold during the winter months. This year’s season is ready to kick off on Nov. 1.
