The N.Y. State Department of Transportation has announced night-time travel lane closures of the westbound Long Island Expressway in Riverhead tonight and tomorrow between Edwards Avenue, Exit 71 and Daniel Hole Road, Exit 70. Two westbound lanes will be closed and one lane will remain open between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. both nights, weather permitting, the DOT said in a press release.

Drivers are urged to use alternate routes or they will experience delays, the DOT said.

“These night time LIE travel lane closures are needed to perform major repairs of the Halsey Manor Road Bridge over the LIE that was recently hit by a truck, in order to maintain its structural integrity and maintain the safety of motorists. As with most road work, this operation is weather-dependent and may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather. Emergency service providers and local officials have been notified of these nightly travel lane closures. Motorists are being warned in advance of these closures via electronic message signs,” the press release said.
