Please rise and give a standing ovation to Sal and Mary St. George and their family for initiating and organizing the First Annual Riverhead Edgar Allan Poe Festival. From the various readings, to the Halloween parade, to theatrical performances, and trick-or-treating on Main Street, by all accounts it was all a smashing success for family fun in downtown Riverhead. The weekend was filled with magic.

Saturday’s turn of bad weather did not dampen the spirits of the volunteers, performers, the authors who participated, or those attending the events. Bravo to the entire cast and crew for an outstanding performance. Job well done!

To the Riverhead Business Improvement District and Riverhead Town: congratulations for undertaking a wonderful opportunity to promote downtown Riverhead and celebrating the life, works, and influences of an American literary legend, Edgar Allan Poe.

Onward and upward, Riverhead! I’m looking forward to future Riverhead Edgar Allan Poe Festivals…for evermore.

Sincerely,

Tom Gahan
Riverhead

Editor’s note: Gahan is president of the Long Island Authors and Writers Society and was one of the participating authors participating in story-telling and readings during  the Poe Festival Oct. 31-Nov.2.
