The Suffolk County Historical Society (SCHS) is pleased to announce the recipients of the organization’s latest History Alive grants. History Alive provides financial support for local, community-based history projects that advance the public understanding of the past.
Awards are based on the quality of proposed projects and the need for funding. “We are gratified by the number of submissions we received. Based on the ambition of the proposed projects, it is clear that local history is alive and well in our communities,” said Kathryn Curran, Executive Director of the Suffolk County Historical Society.
The following organizations received History Alive grants:
The Farmingville Historical Society received funds to create historical costumes for docents to wear during tours of the Bald Hill School House, which the organization has refurbished and opened to school groups and the public. The Farmingville Historical Society can be contacted at P.O. Box 311, Farmingdale, NY 11738 and at farmingvillehistoricalsociety@gmail.com.
The Railroad Museum of Long Island received funds to create a display case for a unique collection of scale models of LIRR locomotives and cars. The Museum is located at 440 4th Street, Greenport, NY 11944 and at 416 Griffing Avenue, Riverhead, NY 11901. Visit their website at www.rmli.org.

“All of these projects promote colorful and unusual moments in Suffolk County history that deserve to be better known. We hope History Alivefunds will help tell those stories,” said Curran.
