(Update 4:26 p.m) Six local fire departments knocked down a structure fire at the Maidstone Landing condo complex in Jamesport over the course of an hour Thursday afternoon.

Police received reports of heavy smoke coming out of a chimney around 3 p.m. today. When they arrived on scene, they found visible flames coming out of the roof of the house. Jamesport Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after. Riverhead, Wading River, Mattituck, Cutchogue and Flanders fire departments were called on mutual aid.

Two women, a mother and daughter, were in the house when the fire started, police said. They managed to escape before the house went up in flames.

A garage door collapsed on a firefighter while he was passing underneath, but he said he was not injured. There did not appear to be any other injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
