The Riverhead Farmers Market is adding a crafts vendors in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Riverhead BID Management Association president Raymond Pickersgill said the lower level of the building where the farmers market opened two weeks ago will be opened up to local craftspeople and artisans beginning next weekend.

“It’s only going to be for 10 days,” Pickersgill said. “People will enjoy being able to shop for Christmas presents when they come to the farmers market. We think the vendors will see a good business, with a thousand people coming through there on the weekends.

The BID decided to expand the indoor farmers market from Saturdays only to both Saturdays and Sundays. (See prior story.)  The Riverhead Town Board is expected to authorize the second day in a resolution at next Tuesday’s board meeting.

If the craftspeople are interested, the BID might continue the craft area next year, beginning in February, Pickersgill said.

“I’ve already got 10 crafts vendors interested in doing it,” Pickersgill said. The lower level space will accommodate “30, maybe more,” he said.

The market will charge a $50 per day fee for vendor space, he said. Interested vendors should call him at his salon at 631-208-8159.

“We’re looking for local craftspeople to sell their own hand-made items. We don’t want imports or factory-made goods,” Pickersgill said.

The crafts market will be open Saturdays and Sundays Nov. 22-23 through Dec. 20-21, Pickersgill said.
