Members of the Riverhead Blue Masques joined Riverhead Buick-GMC for the third annual “Driven to Give” fundraiser yesterday at Riverhead High School, where free, no-obligation test drives of one of the dealership’s 2015 Buicks earned the drama club $20 apiece.

“Last year the playoff game was a home game and they kept announcing this over the loudspeaker,” Williams said. “It drew people over here.” This year, Mike McKillop Memorial Field was quiet, with the Blue Waves on the road for the county semifinal game in Dix Hills. “That’s what happens when you plan something four months in advance,” Williams said with a smile. He had just returned to the fundraising site with a stack of pizza boxes for the cold and hungry students and Buick-GMC employees, and watched everyone dig in.

The ‘Driven to Give’ event was Williams’ idea to help the Blue Masques, which he said was a great club his own daughter enjoyed while in high school.

“We are very grateful to Mr. Williams and Riverhead Buick-GMC for this generous support and we also say thank you to everyone who came out to support the Blue Masques today,” Blue Masques advisor Dena Tishim said. “We’re very proud of all the students and the productions we put on,” she said, “and we’re very excited to use this money for future productions and possibly some Broadway shows for these kids.”

The next Blue Masques offering, a pair of one-act comedies, is coming up in January, Tishim said.
