The awards season at Riverhead High School begins with the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony to welcome the new inductees into the Honor Society. The National Honor Society is more than just an honor roll. Using national guidelines, the local chapter establishes rules for membership that are based upon a student’s outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Fifty-nine students were inducted this year,” states National Honor Society co-advisor Renee Pastor. “They’re great kids, and they step up and help out in almost every aspect of the school and the community.”

“The 2014-2015 school year inductees truly represent a cross section of our student population,” explains co-advisor Laural Olsen. “There are students who are outstanding in community service, music, dance, languages, art and athletics as well as academics. Ms. Pastor and I are really looking forward to working with this group. We held the induction ceremony early this year in an effort to have more Honor Society students available to pitch in on service projects held throughout this school year.

The current officers, Kathryn McKillop (President), Noah Marketwitz (Vice President), Ryan Diresta (Secretary), and Aakash Gandhi (Treasurer), helped co-advisors Laural Olsen and Renee Pastor organize the event which was held in the Cardona Auditorium at Riverhead High School.Officers

National Honor Society President Kathryn McKillop presented the opening remarks at the November 13th induction ceremony and led the inductees in the Honor Society’s pledge during the Candle Ceremony. This year’s honorary inductee was “Doc” Jeff Greenberger, the Latin teacher at the high school. The newly elected officers for the 2015-16 school year will be: President Samantha Dunn, VP Shannon McAlister, Secretary Peter Cook and Treasurer Megan Carrick.
