Thieves stole tires and rims from new cars on the Apple Honda dealership lot early Sunday morning.

A Riverhead police officer on routine patrol at about 1:30 a.m. noticed three 2015 Honda Accords, their tires and rims removed, resting on blocks in the Route 58 lot, according to Riverhead Town Police press release.

“It appears that the officer may have interrupted the crime as one of the vehicles still had all four tires and rims next to the vehicle,” the release said. A K9 search was conducted and evidence was recovered at the scene, police said.

An Apple Honda representative estimated the value of the swiped tires and rims at $5,000.
