A Mastic Beach man was killed in an accident on Sound Avenue at the Baiting Hollow Hill at about 8 a.m. this morning.

Police said Christopher Savage, 46 was westbound in a 1999 Lincoln when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with an eastbound 2007 Toyota driven by Caitlin Minton, 28, of Manorville. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office pronounced Savage dead at the scene, police said.

Minton was transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Stony Brook University Hospital with injuries police said were not life-threatening.

The New York State Police accident reconstruction unit responded to assist in the investigation, according to a police press release issued this afternoon.

Savage was transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, police said.

Sound Avenue was closed between Fresh Pond and Edwards avenues from about 8:10 a.m. until after 12 noon while police investigated the the scene of the crash and emergency crews cleared the roadway.

Riverhead Fire Department fire police assisted with traffic control at the road closure sites.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Riverhead Detective Division at 727-4500 ext. 321.
