Gene Lalor, of Roanoke Landing, formerly of Smithtown, died December 16, 2014. He was 72 years old.

Born in the Bronx on April 8, 1942, he was the son of Mary and Daniel Lalor.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University and master’s and doctorate degrees from St. John’s University. He was the author of several books and articles.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Rosemary, and by his children, Jennifer Miehle, William and his wife, Jennifer, and Jeannie Malone and her husband K.J. He is also survived by his brothers Michael and Daniel, by his grandchildren, Abbie, Maddie, Evan, Katie and Cassie and by many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors at Alexander-Tuthill Funeral Home in Wading River on Friday, Dec. 19, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church,in Riverhead. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram. Memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Long Island Coalition for Life.
