Harold Lester Cross of Riverhead, born March 2, 1923 was a World War II veteran who landed in Normandy and was married 71 years to his first lieutenant nurse in the Army, Claire Vespucci Cross.

A wonderful, spiritual man, always in church as an elder deacon and for 65 years as a lay preacher, who last preached this year at the Riverhead Church of Christ. He was an inventor and engineer who worked on the Apollo mission at Grumman.

Survived by his three daughters Deborah Boschetti, Sara-Ellen Petroni an Susie Amador, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Beloved by all family, friends and anyone who knew him, all were welcome in his home and took great comfort in his advice. A past Governor of the Moose and member of the American Legion in Riverhead.

He was a wonderful husband and loving father. His daughters thought he was their hero. Beloved by all who knew this fair, just, loving man. He has gone home to his Holy Father that he walked with every day.
