(Update: 7:46 p.m.) Riverhead Police said the suspect in this afternoon’s  bank robbery in Jamesport is may be the same man who robbed a downtown Riverhead Capital One branch on Dec. 16. The man, described as a tall black male with a large build, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, handed a teller a note demanding money, according to police. He fled eastbound on foot to a wooded area, police said.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest.

Riverhead Police also said tonight that the suspect in the Sunglass Hut robbery, who displayed a knife and demanded money from an employee at a cash register, was a white male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses. He fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

2015_0106_bank_robbery_3(Original story) Two robberies occurred simultaneously across town this afternoon, one at Capital One Bank in Jamesport and the other at Sunglass Hut at the Tanger Outlet Mall in Riverhead.

Both robberies occurred at approximately 1:56 p.m. today.

At Capital One, a black male presented a teller with a note demanding cash, police said. The subject did not use a weapon or a knife, police said, and fled the bank with an unknown amount of money.

The robbery at Sunglass Hut involved a white male who displayed a knife and also fled the scene with an unknown amount of cash, police said.

The robberies are currently under investigation, police said. Updates to follow.
