image011Riverhead Police have arrested a parolee with a history of larceny convictions in connection with two burglaries of the same Route 58 optometry office in the past three weeks.

Police charged Joseph T. Reiter Jr., 37, of Cutchogue, with burglarizing Sound Vision Care, an optometry office located at 877 Old Country Road, on Dec. 18 and Jan. 1.

Police said they picked Reiter up on an outstanding parole warrant last night at about 10:55.

Reiter was paroled in October 2014 after serving four months in an upstate penitentiary on conviction of two fourth-degree grand larceny charges, one of which was an auto theft charge, according to state corrections department records. He had been charged by Riverhead Police with grand larceny in the third degree on Oct. 1, 2013.

Reiter’s prior history includes convictions of felony attempted grand larceny and felony criminal possession of stolen property in 2009 and two grand larceny/ auto charges and felony criminal possession of stolen property in 2007. He had served prison sentences upstate before being released on parole in each instance.

Reiter was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, a class D felony; he processed and held for morning arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court, police said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
