Expanding its already-extensive orthopedic care services, Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) has appointed Dr. José B. Toro to its staff as its new Director of Orthopedic Fracture and Trauma Services, and welcomes him as the newest member of the Krauss Center at PBMC Health. A distinguished surgeon, researcher and educator, Dr. Toro had been serving as Acting Director of the Division of Orthopedic Surgery at Jacobi Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Toro’s training includes fellowships at the world-renowned Hospital for Special Surgery and New York Presbyterian Hospital in both Metabolic Bone Disease and Orthopedic Trauma. He has served as a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee of Weill Cornell Medical College, and as Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at New York’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine. “Dr. Toro adds an important area of focus to our range of orthopedic services,” said Dr. Richard Kubiak, PBMC’s Medical Director. “His expertise in metabolic bone diseases, osteoporosis, and traumatic fractures will be a significant contribution to our continuum of care, especially in providing the best possible care for our older patients.”

“In adding Dr. Toro to our staff, we are responding to our region’s population growth as well as to the aging of that population,” said Andrew Mitchell, FACHE, President and CEO of PBMC and the entire PBMC Health continuum of care. “As the region’s leader in orthopedic services, we owe it to our community to provide the highest level of care right here in Riverhead. With our outstanding staff of orthopedic surgeons, our 5-star nursing and rehabilitation facilities, and now with Dr. Toro’s expertise, our patients don’t even have to think about traveling out of the area for the finest in orthopedic care. It’s right here.”

In addition to his specialties in treating osteoporosis, traumatic fractures and metabolic bone diseases, Dr. Toro is one of the New York area’s leading experts in remediation of post-surgical issues with mal-union, non-union, infection and failed hardware. A faculty member of AO North America, and a reviewer for the Journal of Orthopedic Trauma, Dr. Toro is also an associate member of the Orthopedic Trauma Association.

Dr. Toro is now accepting new patients and is available for consultations. His offices are located at 64 Commerce Drive in Riverhead and 496 Rte. 111 in Manorville: 631.369.5000.
