Without the big body of Ethan Greenidge in the lineup — he was away at a get-together of new Villanova University football recruits — Riverhead looked to another big body to fill the void against Centereach (0-6 League III, 1-9 overall) on Friday.

Tyrese Kerr put in a dominant performance, showcasing his ability to create mismatches in the paint throughout the game. He finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds — game-highs in both categories — leading to a 56-40 blowout victory before a home crowd.
“The kids are working hard,” Rossetti said, reflecting on a recent string of losses that brought Riverhead’s league record to 2-4 and overall record to 2-8. “Every day we’re getting better and today was our best game of the season.”
“It was a complete game,” Rossetti continued. “The dish-making, the defensive intensity, running our offense, there was a lot of positives to come out of the game.”
Kerr has been the go-to player of late and continues to produce. The past three games he’s registered 18, 20, and 22 points respectively.
“Tyrese has been steady all season,” Rossetti said. “And as they season continues, he keeps getting stronger and stronger. His numbers have been consistent and he’s the guy who’s been carrying us thus far. We’re going to keep going to him until everyone else figures it out.”
Steven Reid has shown the most improvement over the season, Rossetti said, and he’s been the beneficiary of more minutes in the rotation. He’s hit three three-pointers in each of the last two games.
The Blue Waves play in West Islip at 12:45 pm today.
