Today marks the official anniversary of the launch of RiverheadLOCAL — it’s our company’s date of incorporation in 2010.

It’s been quite a ride for us so far, covering breaking news, government and politics, community news and events, school news and sports and … well, everything Riverhead. It’s been a lot of fun, a lot of work and the most amazing experience of our lives.

We are deeply grateful to this wonderful community we call home for the support and love it’s shown for us in this endeavor. Special thanks go to our loyal advertisers, the folks who keep the lights on, the server humming and the news coming to you. Patronize our advertisers and do business with locally owned businesses every chance you get. They keep our community vibrant and alive. They are your neighbors, your relatives, your friends. They support local organizations, PAL sports, school plays… all the things that make Riverhead the community it is.

We are also grateful to the people who work for “the Local” because without their dedication and hard work, and their many amazing talents and abilities, this website wouldn’t be what it is: Laurie Nigro, Amy Davidson, Courtney Blasl, Katie Blasl, Katina Falek, Dawn Bozuhoski, Emil Breitenbach Jr., Michael Hejmej, George Faella, Kayleigh Baig, Eileen Benthal, Celia Iannelli, Mary Anne Corwin and Michele McGovern.

And a special shout-out goes to Lisa Finn, the talented and hardworking editor of our new venture SoutholdLOCAL, launched last March, which has been embraced on the North Fork in much the same way as RiverheadLOCAL was embraced in our community in 2010.

Together, with our readers and advertisers, tipsters, friends, neighbors and family, we demonstrate the POWER OF LOCAL every single day — whether its reuniting a young boy with his lost dog, spreading the word about a new local business opening up, rallying the community around a family in need after a tragedy occurs, celebrating the accomplishments of our kids and neighbors or keeping an eye on what’s going on at town hall or in Hauppauge that affects our wallets. It’s all about local — all about Riverhead, our hometown.

Thank you,

Denise & Peter

PS: Special thanks to Dianne and Bob Castaldi owners of the Suffolk Theater for the well wishes on their marquee!
