A woman and four children were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center following a collision at the intersection of Ostrander Avenue and Elton Street at about 11:15 this morning.

The children, all passengers in a Ford Explorer, were taken as a precautionary measure for evaluation, according to police. One child, age 11, was complaining of neck pain, according to reports. The female driver of the explorer, age 31, was also transported to PBMC for treatment of minor injuries.

The Explorer was eastbound on Elton Street when it collided with a northbound Nissan sedan. The female driver of the Nissan was not injured, police said.

The driver of the Explorer was issued a ticket for failing to have one of the children in a proper child restraint, police said.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Flanders-Northampton Ambulance responded to transport patients to the hospital.
