Riverhead High School varsity cheerleaders got a big welome home tonight upon their return from the National High School Cheerleading Championship at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida, where the team advanced to the semifinals for the first time ever.

A Riverhead Fire Department fire police truck, lights flashing and sirens blaring, escorted the school bus carrying the girls into the parking lot.

The 17-girl squad is coached by Stephanie Piraino and Toni Venza. Sam Cila is their strength coach. They traveled to Orlando with more than 40 parents and supporters.
