A man and a child were brought to Stony Brook University Hospital this morning after their car skidded off the road and hit a pole.

A man traveling in a Nissan was heading westbound down Sound Avenue near Horton Avenue when his car slid off the road and hit a pole, police said. Riverhead Fire Department responded with heavy rescue to remove the car door.

Both the driver and his young passenger were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, according to police at the scene. Neither the man nor the young girl in the back seat were seriously injured.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Correction: A previously published version of this story incorrectly stated that the man and young girl were transported to PBMC by RVAC, when they were in fact transported to Stony Brook University hospital.
