Riverhead Police have identified the man found dead on an Aquebogue farm on Friday as Robert J. Croghan, 52, of Zion Street in Aquebogue.

The owner of Verderber’s Nursery and Garden Center discovered the body on a farm road on his property late in the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 13,  police said in a press release the following day.

In a press release issued this afternoon, police said Croghan’s vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle accident earlier that same day, in which the driver was not at the scene upon police arrival.

Croghan’s vehicle a 2004, Chevy pickup, appeared to be traveling eastbound on Hubbard Avenue crossed through the intersection of Edgar Avenue and collided with a snow bank, trees, and a fence located at Crescent Duck Farm on Edgar Avenue in Aquebogue. The owner of the property reported finding the vehicle involved in the accident at approximately 7:30 a.m. No operator of the vehicle was located at the time the vehicle was discovered.

The cause of death is still under investigation and pending the results from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office.
