It’s going to be a cold week, with forecast temperatures reaching above 30 only on Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will fall into the teens today and dip below zero tonight, according to the National Weather Service. The good news: no snow in the forecast this week.

Local school children return to their classrooms today after winter recess last week. Use extra caution on local roads and keep an eye out for kids waiting at bus stops where piles of snow can obstruct views.

The town’s Landmark Preservation Commission is scheduled to meet today at 4 p.m. in Riverhead Town Hall.

The Riverhead Board of Education will hold its regular meeting tomorrow night at at 7 pm at Riley Avenue Elementary School in Calverton. The board’s agenda is not yet published, but School Superintendent Nancy Carney is scheduled to give the second in a series of budget presentations. This segment focuses on expenditures for regular day school, transportation and facilities.

The Riverhead Community Awareness Program hosts its annual bowling bonanza fundraiser  tomorrow night at the All-Star 7-9:30 p.m.

Anthony Coates is having a fundraiser for his “online civic association” BetterRiverhead.com website tomorrow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jedediah Hawkins Inn.

The Architectural Review Board will meet on Wednesday Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. at Riverhead Town Hall.

Supervisor Sean Walter will give the annual “State of the Town” speech at a joint dinner meeting of the Riverhead Kiwanis, Rotary and Lions clubs Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

The Town Board will have its regular weekly work session meeting Thursday morning. No agenda has yet been published, but the board is planning on convening a special meeting Thursday morning to take up a resolution authorizing a marketing contract for the Calverton Enterprise Park.

The Riverhead Chamber of Commerce is hosting a “lunch and learn” at the Birchwood on Thursday at 12 noon. The topic: Building your marketing toolkit, featuring email and social engagement.

The Zoning Board of Appeals will meet on Thursday, Feb 26 at 7 p.m. Among the items on its agenda: proposal to convert the Bayview Restaurant and Hotel in South Jamesport to apartments and the request by Jedediah Hawkins Inn for a zoning code interpretation to allow outdoor catering use.

A fundraiser for the Lawrence family will be held at Digger’s Ales and Eats Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is hosted by Riverhead High lacrosse alumni for their former coach, Tony Lawrence, whose daughter and ex-wife were shot to death last week in their Wading River home.

Jay Scott (acoustic guitar, vocals) performs at Hotel Indigo to kick off the weekend Winterfest events Friday night, 7-10 p.m.
