Local schools will delay openings this morning, as Riverhead digs out from a snow storm that dumped about six inches of snow across town.
Snow ended overnight and the winter storm warning for our area has been canceled.
Riverhead Highway Department crews have been working since 3 p.m. Sunday to plow local roads and keep them open, Highway Superintendent George Woodson said. Town trucks will be applying salt-sand to the main roads and intersections this morning. Other crews will be out clearing storm drains, because rain is expected Wednesday — following more snow Tuesday evening, Woodson said.
Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter declared a “winter storm event” late yesterday afternoon, prohibiting parking on town roads overnight. The “winter storm event” proclamation continues through 6 p.m. today.
