The North Fork Horseradish Festival, also known as the annual “celebration of all things horseradish” will be coming to Riverhead April 19.

The festival, featuring recipe contests, cooking demos and seminars and lots of activities and competitions, grew out of a local springtime tradition of friends and neighbors gathering on the Wednesday before Easter to peel, grind, mash and prepare horseradish — an annual rite that grew into a party so big, it had to be moved from a family backyard to a vineyard.

This year the North Fork Horseradish Festival will be taking place at Long Ireland Beer Co. located at 817 Pulaski Street in Riverhead, NY 11901. The event takes place from 11 to 5 p.m.

Registration opens at 11 a.m. The event is outdoors, under tents, rain or shine. Use the code HORSEFB15 when purchasing your tickets to get half-off! Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here.

Festival producers have selected the Alzheimer’s Association as the festival’s charity partner. Raffle ticket funds raised will go towards the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
