Everyone was Irish last night Digger’s Ales and Eats, downtown Riverhead’s own Irish pub, where St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated with Irish music, Irish dance, Irish beer, plenty of Irish food and even an Irish wedding. See separate story.
Step-dancers from Mulvihill-Lynch School of Irish Step Dancing enthralled the crowd gathered around the dance floor in the back room of the pub. After the performance, the troupe passed around a hat for contributions to help send one of its own, Mary-Kate Bane, 16, of Westhampton Beach, to the Irish Dancing World Championships in Montreal, Canada at the end of this month. Mary-Kate will be competing on March 31 in her fifth trip to the world championships.
Diggers served a special menu for the St. Patrick’s Day festivities, with ethnic favorites corned beef and cabbage and bangers and mash very much in demand.
