Riverhead Police arrested five people and issued numerous summonses in a “STOP DWI” enforcement action on St. Patrick’s Day, according to a police press release.

Police conducted three sobriety/safety checkpoints in Riverhead from 4 p.m. Tuesday to 1 a.m. Wednesday. The checkpoints were conducted on Route 105 south of 25, on East Main Street near Elton Street and on Peconic Avenue, police said.

Officers issued numerous summonses for vehicle and traffic law violations, including unlicensed operation, driving with a suspended license, no seatbelt and using a cell phone while driving, according to the report.

Police report the following arrests:

Avery C. Ward, 26, of Ridge, driving while intoxicated-drugs, criminal possession of a controlled substance;

William O. Perez, 26, of Flanders, driving while intoxicated-drugs;

Joseph A. Ross Jr., 35, of Riverhead, driving while intoxicated;

Leonardo Moran, 24, of Riverhead, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree;

Cedric J. Gilbert, 27, of Hampton Bays, warrant.
