(Updated March 20, 5:45 a.m.) Local residents will be celebrating the official arrival of spring by shoveling snow if the National Weather Service’s latest forecast is on target.
Expect three to six inches of snow Friday, with locally higher amounts possible, the National Weather Service said in an updated winter weather advisory issued early this morning.
Snow will start later today on the East End than originally forecast, according to the National Weather Service’s latest forecast. It will arrive early this afternoon and continue through this evening, with three to five inches likely, the weather service said.
The winter weather advisory remains in effect from 6 a.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday.
Spring 2015 officially starts today at 6:46 p.m. But the cold grip of Old Man Winter will hang on through much of the upcoming week, with daytime high temperatures mostly in the 30s and nighttime lows in the 20s, according to the National Weather Service.
Take heart: the mercury will flirt with the 50-degree mark next Thursday.
