Evgeniy Pulver, 23, left, provided transportation for John Gayes, 55, right, to the two banks he robbed in December and January, according to police.

Riverhead Police have arrested an East Moriches man on criminal facilitation charges for his involvement in the recent robberies of two Capital One Bank branches.

Police say Evgeniy Pulver, 23, provided the man who robbed both banks — one in downtown Riverhead on Dec. 16 and the other Jamesport on Jan. 6 — with transportation to the banks.

John Gayles, 55, of Mastic, was charged on Feb. 25 with two counts of robbery in the third degree. Gayles had been arrested on Jan. 8 on an outstanding parole warrant and remained in custody while Riverhead detectives investigated the robberies. Following his arraignment where he was found ineligible for bail due to his prior criminal history, Gayles was remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility, where he remains in custody pending prosecution.

Gayles had been paroled on third-degree robbery and burglary convictions on Sept. 2 after serving six years in a state penitentiary. Prior to that, he had served more than 20 years in state prisons, beginning in 1979, on various burglary, robbery and drug charges.

Pulver turned himself in to Riverhead Police yesterday. He was processed and released on $250 bail, police said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
