Riverhead Police have arrested three people in relation to a string of recent thefts from parked vehicles around town.
Early Tuesday morning, Riverhead Police conducted a traffic stop on a 2000 Hyundai Elantra as it was traveling on Ostrander Avenue. Upon interviewing the operator of the vehicle as well as her passengers, police determined that they were in possession of numerous electronic items reported recently reported stolen from vehicles around the Riverhead and Calverton areas, according to a police press release.
Police arrested Katarina Bennett, 23, of Shirley, Jason Scott, 26, of Riverhead and Marquis Nolan, 24, of Calverton.
Bennett was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and various vehicle and traffic law violations, police said. Scott and Nolan were each charged with grand larceny in the third degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and petit larceny, according to the report.
Items reported stolen overnight from vehicles in this week’s police blotter include: a Dell laptop, several GPS devices, survey equipment valued between $6,000 and $9,000, a wallet containing a credit card as well as tools valued at more than $2,500.a
There have been about 8 to 10 incidents of thefts from vehicles in various locations around town in recent days, according to Riverhead Police Det. Sgt. Edward Frost. He said they have linked the suspects to four or five of these incidents so far, with the rest still pending further investigation.
All three subjects were processed at Riverhead Police Headquarters and arraigned in Riverhead Justice Court.
