What is the difference between an employee and an independent contractor? When should sales tax be collected? What has changed in the residential building code for 2015? All of these questions and more will be answered on April 15 at the Contractor’s Business Conference. This event, organized by Riverhead Building Supply, will provide construction business owners with the information and resources needed to successfully meet the challenges of running a business enterprise. The event takes place on Wednesday, April 15, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Southampton Inn, 91 Hill St., Southampton.

“Builders, General Contractors and others in the building trade have tremendous creativity and craftsmanship and need to devote most of their time to the jobsite. So managing their office and the business side of the operation are sometimes in need of a tune-up. We’ve developed this business conference to address common situations and provide useful information and solutions on each topic. Our mission is to equip our customers with all the tools they need to be successful in today’s challenging economy.” said Laura Goodale VanHouten, CPA, Riverhead Building Supply.

Attendees at the conference will have the opportunity to meet with accountants and learn about preparing for an audit and complying with tax law; discuss insurance coverage issues with a local broker; plan for the future of their business or retirement with a financial expert; learn marketing strategies and much more.

Additional presenters include John Barrows (building codes); Adam Browser, Counsel (contract law); Social Circle Consulting (social media, blogging), and NY State Department of Labor.

For the full schedule of this event, visit the RBS Corp website. The event is free of charge, but pre-registration is required. Contact Meredith at 631-996-3087 or email to register.
