Thousands flocked to Splish Splash yesterday for cars, live music and flea-market style vendors at the Riverhead Move the Animal Shelter’s fourth annual Hogs and Hot Rods event.

“It was a great turn-out,” said Denise Lucas, president of Riverhead Move The Animal Shelter. “Everyone had a great time.”

Attendees browsed through hundreds of cars and motorcycles under blue, cloudless skies, which stayed clear and sunny all afternoon. The event lasted from noon to 5 p.m., with $5 admission.

Live music was provided by classic blues rock band Blue Ice and DJ Phil Shmitt. Trophies were awarded to “best in show” motorcycles and cars.

Riverhead Move the Animal Shelter also awarded the RSVP Animal Welfare and Rescue Group with a $500 check and a plaque. “They’re such a great organization,” Lucas said. “It was the least we could do.”

Lucas formed Riverhead Move the Animal Shelter in 2011 to raise money for a new animal shelter for the town. She has since orchestrated dozens of local fundraising events and raised tens of thousands of dollars for the cause.

Her organization was also the driving force behind the construction of the town’s two dogs parks.
