Our fishing season is slowly starting to unfold. The striped bass season opened up on tax day (that’s April 15, if you’re not hip to the lingo).
Capt. Rob Thompson, out of Orient Point , reports that there are some porgies around (catch and release, of course.) This bodes well for the coming porgy season, which opens May 1.
Captain Phil Kess from Fishy Business charters reports he’s gearing up for the coming charter season and says water temperatures are still very cold.
Barbara from the Brooklyn Girl reported in to say their first day of fishing would be May 9 and it would be an “open by reservation only” porgy trip. So make sure to call in advance and reserve your spot.
On the south shore, John at White Water Outfitters reports that a few flounder have been caught at the Shinnecock Canal and some small stripers are starting to become active in the back creeks of Shinnecock Bay.
